Friday's local baseball roundup: Williamsburg Post 39 wins Legion Senior district final

American Legion:

Williamsburg Post 39 beat Denbigh Post 368 7-3 Friday at Warhill High for the District Three Senior title in a tournament whose semifinals had been canceled because of wet fields.

Both teams will advance to the state tournament, which starts Monday outdoors at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex. ...

In the District Three Junior tournament early rounds, according to Post 39's website, top-seeded Williamsburg Post 39 Gold beat Middlesex Post 241 3-1, and Gloucester Post 75 handled Post 39 Blue 5-2.

Coastal Plain League:

The Peninsula Pilots (29-17) improved to a league-best 15-4 in the season?s second half with a 9-2 win over the Wilson Tobs at War Memorial Stadium.

VCU?s Bill Cullen hit an inside-the-park home run, Lander?s Patrick Grady homered, ODU?s Jordan Negrini hit a two-run double, and Mount Olive?s Alex Regan pitched six innings for the win.

International League:

Andrew Albers pitched a three-hitter as Rochester (57-51) beat visiting Norfolk 5-2 in a series opener before 10,027 at Frontier Field to take a one-game lead over the Tides (55-51) for the league?s wild-card playoff berth.

Luis Exposito homered for the Tides, but Oswaldo Arcia belted a two-run homer for the Red Wings, the Minnesota Twins' top affiliate. They have won three games in a row.

Eastern League:

Ryan Lollis batted 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI to boost Richmond (49-57) to a 9-4 win at Akron (52-54).

The Flying Squirrels? Andrew Susac added two hits and three RBI, and Chris Gloor (8-5) pitched eight innings of four-hit ball for the victory.
